I will definitely file a complaint with the FBI. She also said that she could not give me the address of the offender, but if I filed a complaint I could give the agency the Capital One number 1-80 that would cooperate with their investigation. She gave me the numbers of three credit card bureaus to call if I wanted to hire their services to block any credit transactions using my identification. The phone number contact given to us on the confirmation email from Capital One to call for assistance. That specialist also verified that there was an application for a Capital One credit card using my identification, except the address. We called Europcar to get assistance, no-one picked up. After explaining what had happened, I was transferred to a specialist, who to my great relief verified that 1-80 is a valid Capital One Fraud Protection number. I then called Capital One Customer Service and by-passed the immediate request for my 16 digit account number by repeatedly pressing "00". Needless to say, this caused me considerable concern. She stated that the application would be denied. If someone gained access to your account, and stole money or sent it without your permission, this could. She could not disclose this address to me. If someone gained access to your bank account and made a payment with Zelle® without your permission, and you weren’t involved in any way with the transaction, this is typically considered fraud since it was unauthorized activity. The birth date matched with the application but the address was different. On request, I then gave her my home address and birth date.

I then gave her the full number and she reported that someone was indeed making an application. When I only offered the last four digits of that number, I was told that they needed the full number to check if someone had made an application for a Capital One Credit Card using this number. I was asked for my social security number. Even though I do not have a Capital One Credit Card account, I returned the call on Thursday 15 April. My Caller iD showed they called from 87 ((UNAVAILABLE).

I received a voice message from Capital One Fraud Protection on Monday 12 April 2010 requesting me to call them back at 1-80. There is fraud out there, but sometimes they just want to check in and verify stuff with you too. Just always use the number on the back of your card, or verify on their website first. But, my account is clear and good - they were wanting to get a hold of me. She did not address the voicemail or the phone number, however.

I didn't have any fraud - they froze my account to verify my changes. 20 minutes, some personal security questions, some additional verifications, and my account was cleared. I called the number on the back of my card, and after a lot of automated prompts and a representative that couldn't help me, I was passed on to a 'Senior Account Manager'. I recently made changes on my account (last name, home address, new photo on card), but over a month ago, and I've used my card since then. I received a voicemail from a man named Chris that said he was from the Capital One fraud protection department, and that I needed to call 80 ASAP.
